WELCOME
A big welcome to …
This morning we welcomed our new students and their families at our first Monday morning prayers for the 2019 school year. We also welcomed our five new staff members. It was wonderful to see so many school families at this first school prayers.
After prayers Mr Bridgman and Mrs Anna Casey (Board Chairperson) met with the parents of the new students to the school and welcomed them. This is an opportunity for them to introduce themselves to each other and to hear a bit about their child’s school.
We know they will have a wonderful time here at St Joseph’s
Week One
Communication
Good communication is important in an organisation the size of St Joseph’s School. Last year we surveyed the parent community as to the ways in which they feel they are being effectively communicated to. Over 81% of the respondents felt “the school generally communicated well.”
This year, as a result of the survey, there will be two methods of communication: school newsletters via the school website email and home group/team notices via emails from the home group teachers.
Communication regarding your child’s teaching and learning, along with their class programme, needs to be carried out with the home group teacher directly. Home group teachers are happy to meet with parents at any time through the year.
If it is a school wide matter you are welcome to arrange a time to meet with one of the three Associate Principals:

Communication is most effective when parents meet face to face with the home group teacher. If you wish to meet with your child’s home group teacher please arrange a time with them.
Parent Teacher Friend Association (PTFA)
Interested in getting involved in your child’s school? How about join the PTFA.
We would love to welcome new parents to our group. We have streamlined both the meeting schedule and events planned for this year, so it won’t require a huge commitment – we promise!
Our next meeting is TOMORROW TUESDAY FEBRUARY 12 at 1.45 pm in the staff room so please come along if you are able.
If you are not able to make it, but would be interested in putting your name down to help with PTFA-led activities this year, please send an email to pta@sj.school.nz. We will get in touch when events are being planned to see if you are able to help.
Last year we organised and paid for the three new shade sales along with the refurbishment of the blue seats. We also organised the school picnic and school disco, along with our excellent quiz night for parents.
We hope to see you tomorrow at the PTFA meeting at 1.45 pm in the staff room.

- if you have already registered your child for an activity through your enrolmy login, please just select the box of the child you are wanting to enrol.
Please consider your child’s schedule carefully before booking. Any refunds will be charged a $5 administration fee unless they can be transferred to another activity.
