Wearable Arts

Wearable Art at St Joseph’s
On July 11,the excitement could be felt across the hall as the children waited for the show to begin.
The models dressed in feathers, and tin foil, plastic bubble wrap and recyclable bags and cardboard designs were scurrying across the playground desperately trying not to trip or drop any of the elaborate accessories that made up their costumes.
Wearable art at St Joseph’s was the highlight of Team 3’s term. The many weeks of planning, drawing, cutting and problem solving were over and now we were standing hushed in the foyer waiting for our turn to tell the audience about our design s and strut to the music we had chosen.
The 42 models came from 6 classrooms of year 4, 5 and 6 children. Each model had a design team behind them who had used our term topics to create the winning design. A narrator was chosen to draw attention to the special effects used so that the judges wouldn’t miss out on ideas being presented.
We were lucky that our Principal Ms O’ Connell Cooper, who always dresses beautifully, Karen Trenberth from Rosmini College, Art department, who has a flair for special effects, and  2 Art and design Rosmini students,  William Lampen-Smith and Peter Walsh who both had a strong understanding of innovative design and Technology, were chosen as a our judges.
The parents commented that the show was a joy to watch and the students felt all their hard effort was worth the end result.
