PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE

Dear Whanau and Parents

Our prayers today are with the St Mary’s College, Ponsonby, community. Isabella Alexander, a Year 13 student, died this morning, due to a suspected heart attack – not COVID. This is an absolute tragedy for Isabella’s whanau, friends and school community. Please keep them all in your prayers.

Eternal rest grant unto her, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon her. May her soul and the souls of all the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace.

This week we have introduced Children’s Chat. By all accounts the children have enjoyed seeing each other and the staff in their Learning Pod. We have also given parents the option to contact their child’s teacher in order to arrange sharing of email addresses should they wish their child to contact another child in their class by zoom.

Assuming that we continue in Alert Level 3 or 4 over the next couple of weeks both these options will be available. On Monday next week students/parents will be sent the link to their Pod’s Children’s Chat. They will be on the same day at the same time, as this week.

School Prayers, 9 am each day and Read and Feed, 10.30 am each day, will continue through Alert Level 4 and 3.

As we understand it the Prime Minister will be making an announcement on Monday on the Alert Levels for the week ahead. If we are going into Alert Level 3 on Tuesday at 11.59 pm, information will be sent out on Tuesday as to the school’s procedures for Alert Level 3.

The Principal’s Message will cover the following topics:

Tiaki/ Care – My Food Bag Vouchers – UPDATE

Thank you to those of you that sent in nominations for the My Food Bag Vouchers.

Along with a generous donation from within the St Joseph’s Community, we have been able to provide eight (8) families with a voucher for a Bargain Box Choice to feed a family of 4 dinner, for 5 nights. These vouchers will be sent out directly from Alister.

We hope the vouchers provide these eight (8) families with some Aroha/ Love from the St Joseph’s Community at these unprecedented times and makes the juggle a little less difficult.
