PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE

Dear Parents / Caregivers

Yesterday the Board announced the launch of the new 2022 – 2024 Charter. The development of this Charter and Learner Profile began last year through a series of consultations with the school community including the students, staff, parents and Parish. It is wonderful to have completed our vision for the next three years.

Thursday, June 23rd, we will be launching the new Charter and Learner Profile as part of our Matariki celebrations – new beginnings. All families are welcome to join us for breakfast, 7.30am – 9am, in the school quad. This is a wonderful opportunity to catch up with other school families and enjoy breakfast and a coffee. Please pencil this date and time in your diary.

Winter has arrived! The rain continues and the temperatures have lowered. We would encourage children to put a jacket in their bag when coming to school, particularly children who walk to and from school, catch buses and walk to the Lake House Cafe. The children who are dropped off at the church between 8am and 8.15am might also need a jacket.

The following topics will be covered in this weeks Principal Message:

  • Welcome
  • Matariki Breakfast
  • NZ Year 4 Math Champion
  • Rippa Rugby Tournament
  • School Fees Statements
  • Matariki Public Holiday
  • Angelus Choir
  • PTFA Fundraising

MATARIKI BREAKFAST

NZ YEAR 4 MATH CHAMPION

Congratulations to Noel who got 1st place for Year 4 in the Mathletics NZ Math Day event. This is an outstanding achievement which sees Noel taking 1st place in New Zealand for his year group.  Noel was presented the trophy at the team prayers this morning.

Congratulations Noel!

RIPPA RUGBY

Rippa Rugby

On Thursday the 2nd of June (Week 5), four Rippa Rugby teams from Saint Joseph’s went to a Rippa Rugby tournament with other schools on the North Shore.

When we arrived, we were all feeling a bit nervous, really excited and a bit cold. The whole day it was raining on and off, and for some of the games, there were even rainbows that came out. There was also the added drama of thunder and lightning. Our tent almost blew away because of the wind.

All teams represented our school very nicely. Most of the Saint Joseph’s teams won all of the games that they played. It was very interesting to see how we played against other schools. We all had so much fun! It was such an amazing experience despite the Auckland weather. We look forward to our next tournament!

ANGELUS CHOIR

A message from our St Joseph’s Parish regarding the Angelus Choir your children might enjoy being involved in:

PTFA FUNDRAISING

PTFA Fundraising

St Joseph’s School (Takapuna) are raising funds to replace our Junior Playground.   Due to the age of the current playground, we need to fundraise $120k + to build an exciting, brand-new adventure playground for our children, in the next 2-3 years.

Funding is not directly provided by the Ministry of Education for school playgrounds, so any replacements must be funded by the school community.  Enhancing our outdoor environments will provide St Joseph’s Students with emotional, social and physical benefits.  Increased self-esteem, improved collaboration skills, enhanced critical thinking ability and a strengthened immune system are just some of the high-level benefits children gain by being able to play outdoors.  Improvement of our outdoor environment will benefit all current and future St Joseph’s School Students.  All funds raised through Pie, Roll & Samosa sales will go towards the Junior Playground replacement.

We are delighted to be partnering with Dad’s Pies and Surti Samosa’s to fundraise for our Junior Playground replacement.  For every box or bag sold, St Joseph’s will receive between $12 and $16 from Dad’s Pies & Surti Samosas.  That means that if every St Joseph’s family sold at least 2 boxes to friends or family, together, we would raise over $10k for the Junior Playground Replacement.

We will have prizes for the family with the largest dollar value sold and the class with the highest dollar value sales will be treated to a Pizza Lunch on the last Friday of Term 2!

How can I order?

Visit the PTFA website at: https://stjosephspta.org.nz/collections/fundraising and select your pies, rolls or samosas!

How long do I have to order?

The selling period is from today, with last orders received on Sunday 26th June. (2 week purchasing period)

When will I get my goods?

Tuesday 5th July all pies, rolls and samosas will be delivered to St Joseph’s School and given to the St Joseph’s student nominated on the order form (under billing address).  The student/ parent will be required to deliver to the purchaser.

I don’t have a credit card, so can’t purchase via the website.

Not a problem. If you don’t have a credit card but would like to make a purchase and support our school, please email pta@sj.school.nz and we can provide you with the details to do a bank transfer.

Thank you for supporting our school and helping improve our facilities for current and future St Joseph’s Students.
