Principal’s Message – 11 November, 2022

ST JOSEPH’S CATHOLIC

PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE

Kia Ora Whanau,

What an AWESOME Book Festival Week we’ve had this week.

It began on Monday with our Whanau Breakfast and Book Character Parade. The students and staff certainly went to great efforts to dress up as their favourite book character. It was wonderful to see all the students in their costumes and we had a great Book Character Parade. Thank you to all the parents and whanau who joined us for this event. A special thank you to the parents who cooked breakfast. It was delicious!

The Book Festival was highly successful. We appreciate all your support for this very special event. Thank you to the parents and visiting authors and readers who helped make this Book Festival Week the success it has been.

There are five more weeks of the school year left. These five weeks have a number of events occurring. Please keep an eye on the school calendar for dates and times of events that your children are a part of. The school year ends on Friday, 16th December at 1pm.

The final school liturgy is being held on Wednesday, 14th December in the Rosmini Auditorium beginning at 11am. This will be followed by a picnic on the bottom field. Food trucks have been organised should you wish to buy lunch rather than bring a picnic. We have outgrown the church as a school with students, staff, parents and whanau all in attendance. So we are grateful to Rosmini for allowing us to use their auditorium.

If you have Attendance Dues outstanding, please could you pay them by the end of November. The Catholic Office states that all Attendance Dues are to be paid by this date in order that they can be processed and your debt is cleared before the end of the school year. If you are still looking to pay your donations, these would be gratefully received before the end of the year. Thank you.

Take care

Ka manaakitia e te Atua

SCHOLASTIC BOOK FAIR/BOOK WEEK

Thank you so much for all your help making our book fair such a HUGE success!! We just finished counting our mountain of money and it’s an absolute record breaking $8,291.20 made!! We keep 35% of that as $$ to spend on books for our library.

READ-A-THON UPDATE

Thank you to everyone for all their support of the PTFA read-a-thon. Together we have raised almost $8,500 to go towards our fundraising goal for the new playground!

We hope the children enjoyed the challenge – between them they read more than 116,000 pages!

We would like to congratulate the following children from each year group who either read the most pages or raised the most money: Milla W; Arwen S; Rich V; Michael F; Jonathan; Ava L; Elle W; Alex R; Jeremy; and James B. They all won books and a voucher for The Booklover bookstore in Milford.

Thank you to everyone for your support.

LIBRARIAN VISIT POSTPONED

Unfortunately our Librarian from Takapuna Library had to postpone her visit this past Wednesday. However, this means there is still time to sign up for a Library card! She will be here on Wednesday, 16th November.

If your family does not have a library card:

  • Apply via the link below.
  • Email your child’s HG teacher to let them know your child will be receiving a card.
  • Your child will then receive the card on Wednesday.
  • If you forget step two, but your child knows you’ve applied for the card, they will still be able to collect it on Wednesday. Emailing their HG teacher will just mean they can remind your child to go and pick it up when the librarian is on-site.
  • Library cards are free for all Auckland residents and ratepayers; and you can use the card at any of the Auckland Council Library locations.
  • To sign up for your card, click here.

COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT SURVEY

IMPORTANT!

In the past couple weeks, you would have received an email from AskYourTeam. The email contains a link to our annual Community Involvement Survey. We appreciate if you could complete the survey, as the community feedback assists us with our planning for 2023.

If you have not received the survey link, please contact Lizzy at secretary@sj.school.nz. The survey closes this coming Monday, 14th November.
