Principal’s Message – 18 November, 2022

ST JOSEPH’S CATHOLIC
SCHOOL
TAKAPUNA

PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE

Kia Ora Whanau,

We come to the end of another great week here at St Joseph’s. The whole school has enjoyed participating in the cricket workshops. This has been an opportunity for the students to give cricket a go and see if they are interested in taking it up as a sport.

Team Kakariki had a visiting artist over the last couple of weeks, from the Lake House. The artist worked with the students on water paints. The subject was birds of Tiritiri Matangi. Team Kakariki will be visiting there towards the end of the term.

Congratulations to our Year 5/6 football team who participated in the Takapuna Schools Cluster Football tournament. They were the winners of their age group. They brought the cup back home, having won it last year. Congratulations also to the Year 3/4 team for representing our school in their age group.

Team Kakariki have continued their Waterwise programme this term. This programme sees them learning and experiencing sailing on Lake Pupuke. Yesterday our St Joseph’s team participated in the Waterwise Regatta which saw schools from the Waterwise programme competing against each other. Congratulations to our Boys Sailing Team 1 for winning Gold.

Last week I shared that we will be celebrating our End of Year Liturgy at Rosmini Auditorium on Wednesday 14 beginning at 11 am. As part of the Year 6 farewell celebrations, we are having a Mass on Monday 5 December, beginning at 6.30 pm. Year Six whanau and friends are invited as are fellow students and their families. The Mass will be live streamed.

Have a lovely weekend

Take care

FOOTBALL TOURNAMENT

TAKAPUNA AFC FOOTBALL FESTIVAL

by Sean T

Hello Everyone,

Thanks for reading this. I just want to tell you about our run in the Takapuna AFC Football Festival.

We won the tournament by a big margin of 3-0. Actually, our team went undefeated.

The Year 5 and 6 winners squad was absolutely amazing, playing some class football. As someone that went to all the games and got to see them first-hand on the pitch, I can tell you all that we were a really good team.

The coaching was great, the team morale was high, everyone had a smile on their faces for kick-off and as the final whistle blew. I saw some amazing goals scored by numerous people. The defending was spot-on, the midfield was beautiful with their passing, and the attack was like a tornado with the ball.

The Year 3 and 4 team, which I didn’t personally watch play, really put all their effort into the games. They also played great football as I heard from them at our lunchtime break.

For a bit of general information about the tournament, it was hosted on the 9th of November at the Takapuna AFC grounds. Four schools were competing and it ran from 9:30 to 2:30pm.

Thanks to all who participated.

WATERWISE REGATTA

Waterwise Regatta News Report

By Robbie, Josh C and Josh B.

On Thursday 17th November, 12 Year Six students represented St Joseph’s at the Inter-school Waterwise Regatta on Lake Pupuke. Half of us were involved in the kayak races and the other half in the sailing relay race.

The kayakers were put into heats, where they raced through a course to qualify for the final. For the girls in kayaking we had Maddy, Violet, and Kaylia; for the boys we had James B, Matthew, and Blake. Our qualifiers were Kaylia, Maddy, James B, and Matthew. Sadly none of them won but they did a great job.

For the girls sailing team we had Aurora, Charlie, and Matilda. For the boys sailing team we had Josh B, Josh C, and Robbie, who went on to win the boys sailing relay for St Josephs with a nail biting finish.

A big thank you to the parents who helped and supported us. A memorable day for us all at Lake Pupuke.

LIBRARY BOOKS TO BE RETURNED

Just a reminder… the library is now closed for stock take. Please check to see if you have any school library books or school resources at home. Thank you!

ART ON SALE

ST JOSEPH’S CHRISTMAS GIVING

It’s that time again…

As we start to prepare for our own Christmas offerings, we think of others. This may be through prayer. Or, if you are in the position to do so, a small item for St Joseph’s Christmas Giving 2022.

Each year our Community of Faith is blessed to support the Monte Cecilia Housing Trust at Christmas.

This year we would like to encourage our students to take a little time to purchase a small gift to go towards our Christmas giving.

Here are some great ideas:

  • Art supplies
  • Small cars
  • Small dolls
  • Games
  • Outdoor sports games.
  • Please no clothing or second hand goods.

There are four baskets in the school office for donations to be dropped into Boys and Girls Years 0 – 10, Teenagers, Mums and Dad’s. These are filler items to accompany the gifts that the Parish puts together.

Thank you for your generosity.
