PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE

Pope Leo XIV

Happy Mothers Day to the Mothers within our school community. It was lovely to see so many of you this morning having a coffee and chocolate brownie. Thank you to our PTFA  for organising this for our Mothers. We wish you a wonderful Mothers Day with your whanau on Sunday.

TAKAPUNA ANZAC DAY PARADE

On 25 April a number of students represented our school at the Takapuna Anzac Parade. They met at Sanders Ave along with students from Rosmini and Carmel Colleges, and other local primary schools and colleges. The schools followed arm forces personnel and the armed forces band, walking down Lake Road, into The Strand, to the Takapuna War Memorial. As part of the ANZAC service our year 6 students, Oscar, Sophie and Nathaniel, laid the school wreath.

Thank you to the families who allowed their children to be part of this remembrance celebration. Your support is greatly appreciated

Lest We Forget

MERCY “WEEKEND WEAR” DAY/COLOUR RUN

Next Friday, the 16th of May, we’re celebrating Mercy Weekend Wear Day and our Colour Run. Mercy Weekend Wear Day is the day we take time with the children to visit our Mercy Values and School Motto. These are the core values of our school and of life. They allow children to live a life that sees them being respectful of themselves and others within the context of their faith and reflecting the teachings of the Gospel.

After lunch, the children will participate in the Colour Run. This will see them running around the field and having coloured powder thrown over them. Please make sure the children are wearing ‘old weekend wear’.

BUNNIES

The George family gave us two bunnies. They’re my favourite! I want their names to be Tania (like the crocodile who wanted to be a Ballerina) and Houdini. Or maybe Mopsy and Houdini. They like to drink water. – Olivia, Age 5.

We have new bunnies at school. They have sharp claws. One of the bunnies is a little bit ginger coloured and one silver and brown. The Silver one likes to eat and the ginger one likes to sleep. – Rianna, Age 6.

REPORTING

The Minister of Education this week provided schools with further guidance around assessment and reporting. For 2025 we are to report achievement and progress based on the new English and Maths curriculum. The assessments for these curriculums will be finalised in Term 4, at which stage teachers will be provided professional development on them. The Minister also shared a link to a Parent Portal This website contains information as to the programme of learning for each year level and activities that you can do at home to support your child’s learning.

You will be receiving your child’s progress report in the final week of the term. It will share with you what your child has achieved and their next steps, in relation to the new curriculum. It is a progress report as the children are halfway through their year’s programme of learning. For the end of the year report we will be able to provide you information as to where you child is at in relation to the full year’s programme of learning, which is delivered according to the year level your child is at.

As part of our mid year reporting process we also have ‘Sharing the Learning’ and Parent Teacher interviews. We would encourage you to come along to school on one of the following mornings: Monday June 23, Tuesday June 24, and Wednesday 25 8:15 am – 8:45 am. Parent Teacher interviews will be at the beginning of Term 3 and you will be informed of the date and sent a link for booking a time, when the details have been finalised.
