PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE

Dear Parents

It is hard to believe that there are only two full weeks of the year to go. They will be two busy weeks for the children as they prepare for the school year to come to a close.

We look forward to parents and whanau joining us at the end of year events which include the Kiwi Christmas show, the Year 6 Celebration Mass, the school’s End of Year Liturgy and the whanau picnic

As you will have seen in the media, there continues to be a growing list coloured-sand products being recalled by MBIE. We had one learning space, Home Group 19/20 closed, due to the brand of coloured-sand that was purchased, being recalled. We informed the Ministry of Education and Catholic Property Office. The children have spent the last two weeks in the Christmas class which was set up in the hall.

The Catholic Property Office has led our school’s MOE process for disposing of the coloured-sand safely and arranging for the learning space to be assessed. Last night we received approval for the children to return to their learning space. Some of them are very disappointed not to be in the Christmas class.

The coloured-sand product recalls have impacted both families and education centres. The MOE arranged for Health New Zealand Chief Medical Officer, Dr Joe Bourne, to share his thoughts with all parents and caregivers about the recalls.
