Board of Trustees

St Joseph’s Catholic School Takapuna

Board of Trustees

9 June 2022

Tēnei koe i tēnei ahiahi – Good afternoon everyone

On behalf of the Board, we would like to thank everyone for their ongoing efforts to support the school’s health and safety protocols. We would also like to thank our school’s leadership team and staff who continue to work hard to provide a stable and positive learning environment for our students.

New St. Joseph’s School Charter and Learner Profile

As we look ahead and plan for the next few years, the Board – with support from the school’s leadership team, a planning committee, and feedback from our school and parish communities – has completed a review and update of our school Charter and Learner Profile.

The Charter is the Board’s key-planning document and sets out the vision we have for our school. It identifies the strategic direction and priorities that the Board tasks the principal with leading. The Charter and Learner Profile are also reflective of the goals and aspirations our community (teachers, students, and whanau) shared with us as part of the feedback process. We are grateful for everyone’s input.

The Board and leadership team are proud of these documents, which will help guide and steer our school through the next few years of its journey. The Charter and the Learner Profile are both available on our website here, and you will also see copies displayed around our school.

As a thank you to our community for its contribution to this process, we would like to invite you to join us for breakfast on Thursday June 23, for a Matariki celebration of new beginnings. Copies of the Charter and Learner Profile will be available, and members of our Board and leadership team will be on hand to answer any questions you have regarding the content.

When looking at these documents, please also take the time to appreciate the stunning artwork that was created by several of our talented senior students to help bring our plan to life, including:

  • Faith – Grace, HG 3
  • Team Player – Joss HG3
  • Critical thinker – Laura HG2
  • Resilience – Filia HG4
  • Curious – Evie HG 5
  • Creative – Markus – HG 1
  • Independent learner – Isla HG 4

Upcoming Board of Trustee Elections

At this time we would also like to draw your attention to the upcoming triannual, school board elections. School board members are active leaders in our schools. They have an important role of supporting strong professional leadership and ensuring effective teaching for all students through informed governance.

Parents/caregivers and people in our wider community can be parent representatives, and the board should ideally be representative of the diversity of our school community.

Over the coming weeks, more information will be sent out about the election process, including about the nomination and voting process. In the meantime, we urge you to think about putting yourself forward as parent representative on the board.

If you are interested in finding out more about becoming a school board trustee, please feel free to speak to our current board members at the upcoming Matariki breakfast. You may also find the following resources to be useful as you consider whether to put yourself forward for nomination.

Thank you

We look forward to seeing you at the breakfast on June 23, and thank you again for your support of our school.

Yours sincerely,
