PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE

Dear Parents / Caregivers

Today brings us to the end of Week 2 and Term 3 is flying by already!

Thank you for keeping our tamariki and staff safe by keeping your child home when they are unwell and sending them with a mask to wear at school (Years 3-6).

It is great to see the parents connecting with the Home Group teachers at the Parent / Student / Teacher conferences. If you haven’t booked an appointment time and your child is in Year 3-6, please contact your child’s teacher.

The following topics will be covered in this weeks Principal’s message:

  • Rippa Rugby Tournament
  • School Attendance Dues
  • Daily Prayers
  • Board of Trustees Elections
  • sKids After School Care Programme – Positions Available
  • MSPorts – Rugby Skills Clinic (non-contact)

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact us at principal@sj.school.nz

Kind regards

Laura Bateman & Natasha Luxford

RIPPA RUGBY TOURNAMENT

Rippa Tournament

By Ashton (Year 5)

It was a cold, misty morning as we arrived at the Takapuna Rugby Club. A few people were already there, so we headed over to the tent. On the way, we noticed Forest Hill School was arriving too.

We approached the tent and we all put our bags and other accessories down. Corey had brought bandannas for the Year 6 team, even though the other teams also wanted one. A few had face paint on, as well as flags. We were passing the ball around until we realised that the Year 4 team had a game.

We were all there to support them. They won 8-6 against Belmont Primary. The Year 5’s had their first game against the Year 6 team. It was a close game but the Year 6 group pulled off the win against us, scoring 6-4.

Before we knew it, we had another game against Forest Hill. The ref was pretty good – he was a rookie (we’d like to thank all the refs for taking time out of their day for us). We managed to get the win against them, 11-4.

Joe and Joseph got a really good intercept pass and scored a try. It was the play of the game! Shout out to them! We all enjoyed buying food from the tuck shop. The Year 5’s then went off against Stanley Bay School. They were really good but we managed to win 8-7.

We would like to thank all the parents that supported us and Mr O’Connor for looking after us. The day started off very cold and misty and it ended up being sunny and joyful. It was a great day playing rugby with our friends, having our families there too. 🙂

SCHOOL ATTENDANCE DUES

Thank you to all families that are up-to-date with their Attendance Dues.

As we head into Term 3, just a gentle reminder that these should be paid by the beginning of Term 4 if at all possible.

Financial assistance is available to support families that require help paying these. Please email principal@sj.school.nz

Parents can access their child’s school fees statement via the @School App. Simply log in and click on the black “Accounts” icon. That will take you to a screen where you can download the statement.

Please note – statements are not updated in real time, as the payments are manually entered into our school fees system on a weekly basis (i.e. if a payment you made today doesn’t appear on the statement, check back in a week’s time and it should be entered). At this writing, statements are up-to-date to the 4th of August.

In addition, a “bulk run” of statements will be emailed out to parents next week.

If you have any questions or have difficulty accessing the @School App, please email secretary@sj.school.nz

DAILY PRAYERS

All of our Home Groups start their day with prayer at 8:50am. Prayer is a time for the children to connect with each other and develop and grow their relationship with God.

We ask that you prioritise getting to school by 8:40am as this enables your child to settle in, get organised and be ready to participate in this important aspect of our school day.

Thank you for your continued support with this.

BOARD OF TRUSTEES ELECTIONS

Thank you to those members of our community who have put themselves forward for nomination for a position on the Board of Trustees. More nominations have been received than positions available, which means our community will now be invited to vote and elect five parent representatives to sit on our board.

My School Election is in the process of preparing voting papers, which will also include a statement from each candidate introducing themselves. Voting papers will be posted out next week (so please keep an eye on your mailbox), along with instructions regarding how to return the forms.

We encourage everyone to review, vote and return their voting papers so that you can have a say on who will help govern our school for the next three years.

Many thanks.

Eric Esnouf, Chair

St. Joseph’s School Board of Trustees
