Thank You

Tuesday 9 May 2023

Dear Parents

Thank you for collecting your children early this afternoon, as a consequence of the heavy rains. We appreciate that many parents experienced challenging drives to school due to the heavy traffic, car accidents and road closures.

We initially invited parents to collect their child early as we were aware of potential flooding occurring on roads parents travel, when collecting their child from school. The Civil Defence Flood Warning Emergency Alert at 12.06 pm confirmed our concerns. We sent out a further request to parents to collect their children. A State of Emergency was declared in Auckland shortly after 1 pm.

We are fortunate that our school buildings are not impacted by flooding, so students and staff were, and are, safe in these heavy rains. The concern for our school community, during these weather events, is the flooding of Fred Thomas Drive and traffic being gridlocked on the roads parents use to travel to our school.

Students will always be looked after until such time as parents can collect their child. If you ever have any concerns that you will not make it on time to collect your child, please ring and let us know. We will ensure your child is looked after and kept safe until such time as you can collect them.

At this stage we are planning to be open tomorrow. We look forward to the children being dropped off at school, after 8.15 am, as per the normal drop off procedure, for a full day of learning.

Should we be instructed to keep the school closed, we will contact parents accordingly.

Thank you for your ongoing support.
