PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE

Dear Parents

The staff are hoping for a dry Sunday this weekend as a number of us are participating in the ‘Round the Bays’ fun run. The North Shore has its own family focused walk/run event, the Shore-to-Shore coming up in April. It is a great family event and our school puts on a BBQ for our students at the end of the walk/run in the Milford Reserve. A great place to all get together after a bit of exercise with our school families. Check out the Shore to Shore website for all the details and register the family under St Joseph’s School. All entries registered under our name provide our school points. These points, in turn, provide us a dollar amount to spend on sports equipment for school. Hope to see you there.

This year we have introduced a new tier of leadership – The Manukura. Each of the three teams is led by a Manukura: Cate Dunne – Kiwi; Meidy Lambert – Kakapo; Peter O’Connor – Kakariki. Their role is to support the children, teachers and parents in their team. The Tui team includes Annette Woodhead – Director of Religious Education (DRS); Associate Principals (AP) – Debbie Pratt, Natasha Luxford, Laura Bateman. They will continue to work on school wide initiatives.

Have a great week

SCHOOL PRAYERS

For 2024, School Prayers will be held on Monday mornings every second week. For Term 1, this will see them being held Weeks 6, 8, & 10. In the alternate weeks, the school will be coming together for waiata.

STATIONS OF THE CROSS

We are looking for expressions of interest from our tamariki (children) to take part in the Good Friday Stations of the Cross. This will be held at 10am on 29th March – Good Friday – and lasts approximately an hour. Children across our school are invited to take part. However, we do need a core group of older students for the main roles and speaking parts. Please email Annette Woodhead annettew@sj.school.nz if your child would be available to take part.

SACRAMENTS INFORMATION EVENING 2024

St Joseph’s Catholic Church Takapuna Weekly Newsletter

St Joseph’s Parish Sacramental Programme will be taking place in Term 2 and the start of Term 3. On Wednesday 3 April and Monday 8 April at 7pm, in the Parish Hall,  there will be  an opportunity to find out more about these Sacraments – Reconciliation, Confirmation and Eucharist. If you want to know, more please come along to one of these evenings.

CELLPHONES/SMART WATCHES

The Government has introduced a policy that requires students not to use cellphones throughout the school day. All students who have cell phones/smart watches are required to hand them into the office in the morning and collect them at the end of the day. Alternatively they can keep them at home. Thank you for your cooperation.

PLAYGROUNDS CLOSED AFTER SCHOOL

At the end of each day, our focus is to get children to their parents, onto buses and into cars.

In order to assist this process, please do not allow your children to play on the adventure playgrounds. Please collect them from their learning space and take them to your car.

We appreciate that families like to catch up at this time. You are welcome to do so. However, we ask that you keep your children with you. The playgrounds are closed after school. Thank you for your support.

SCHOOL TOILETS

Our hall toilets, quad ‘outside’ toilets and learning space toilets are for student use. Adults requiring a toilet can use the toilets in the administration building. These are for adult use only. If you have a preschooler requiring the toilet, please take them to the quad ‘outside’ toilet, not the hall toilets or admin toilets. Thank you!

YUMMY STICKERS

The Yummy Sticker Promotion is happening again this year. Please go to this website for details on how you can help St Joseph’s acquire FREE sports gear for out school. Sticker sheets will be due in at the end of Term 3. We are grateful for your participation!! – St Joseph’s Sports
