PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE

Dear Parents

Yesterday the Kiwi Team had an AWESOME athletics day. It was great seeing the children participate in the activities with such enthusiasm and positivity. Thank you to the whanau for taking the time to come along a support the children. Our thanks to the Kakariki students for their support of the children with their activities.

Kakapo and Kakariki have their athletics day in Term 4

Next week is Holy Week. This will see the children preparing for Easter. On Thursday 28 March we have our school Stations of the Cross liturgy. This is held in the school hall and begins at 2 pm. The liturgy tells the story of the final week of the life of Jesus, up to the point that he is placed in the tomb. On Wednesday 3 April 2 pm, in the hall, the school will meet for the Easter liturgy to celebrate the risen Lord. Whanau are welcome to join us for  both of these liturgies.

On Friday 29 March – Good Friday – our children will be performing the Parish Stations of Cross in our church. This liturgy begins at 10 am. All whanau and parishioners are invited to this special liturgy. Get there early to get a pew.

If you are traveling on Thursday to your holiday destination please let their teacher know that your child will not be at school that day and therefore will not be participating in the school liturgy. Please also remember to complete the notification of the ‘holiday’ absence on the school app.

Have you registered your children for the ‘Colour Run’, Friday April 5, and ‘Shore to Shore’ Sunday April 7. These are two great events for the children and the family that are coming up in a couple of weeks.

The ‘Colour Run’ is on the Friday afternoon and is going to be combined with a water slide and an outside disco. A excellent afternoon of fun for the children combined with fundraising for the PTFA and our school.

The ‘Shore to Shore’ is a great family walk/run which ends at Milford reserve where the PTFA will have a BBQ sausage for the St Joseph’s children. Every family member that enters and is registered under St Joseph’s Catholic School, gives us points for new school sports equipment. See you at the end of your family walk/run.

Check out the details for both these events below.

WELCOME

We’d like to extend a very warm welcome to Francis who started at St Joseph’s in Year 4 this week. We’re pleased Francis and his family have joined our school community.

We invite the families of all students who have started their schooling at St Joseph’s over the last couple of weeks, to come to the School Prayers on Monday 25 March. School prayers is held in the school hall and begins at 8.50 am.

Imagination Experience

Blair from the Imagination Experience came to visit the Kakapo Team to teach us all about Science by showing us a range of amazing experiments (that we won’t try at home!!). The final experiment was a highlight for many of the tamariki because it involved a huge explosion of ping pong balls! We all returned back to class buzzing with our Scientific wonderings!

sKids

Tuesday 2 April

sKids are looking to be open on Easter Tuesday, when our school is closed for the Easter weekend. If you are interested in enrolling your child into the programme for the day please contact Geoff and Tess on 0270674840

Ministry of Education

Attendance

Every day matters for every child and young person. Regular attendance at school helps build and maintain a child’s learning, establishes positive daily routines, and promotes wellbeing by connecting them to their peers.

The Ministry of Education requires schools to report additional attendance indicators.

The indicators will record:
› Learners with 5 or more full days unjustified absence in a term
› If action has been taken for learners unjustifiably absent for 5 or more full days
› Absences remaining unexplained at the end of each week

The Ministry Of Education will be collecting this information on individual children from the beginning of Term 2.

A reminder that family holidays in term time are considered an unjustified absence
