Kia Ora Whanau

Last night we witnessed 70 children receiving the Sacrament of Confirmation from Bishop Steve. It was a beautiful liturgy, which saw the children being supported by their parents, sponsors, whanau and their catechists. 

This weekend will see these same children receiving the gift of the Sacrament of First Holy Communion. The children will be attending one of the four Masses held over the weekend at St Joseph’s and will receive the final Sacrament of welcome into the church from Father.

Congratulations to the children and their families for the wonderful way they have worked together to learn about these sacraments which are central to our Faith.

This weekend also sees our children performing at the Jump Jam festival. We wish the two teams all the best for their performance. The children and their teachers have put in many hours preparing for this event. They will be AWESOME.

Next Friday evening the PTFA is putting on a movie night in the school hall. Please check the details in this Principal Message. This is a wonderful opportunity for families to come together and enjoy watching ‘The Wild Robot’. The movie is free, however you might like to bring some gold coins for the sausage sizzle along with purchasing some popcorn and sweets. There will also be raffles and prizes.

Children need to attend this event with their parents. This is not a drop-off babysitting event.

The children have been praying for the people of Nepal at the morning prayers. It has been a truly devastating landslide. We, along with many NZ schools, will be making a donation of $500 to the Caritas – Nepal fund. Please keep them in your prayers.

Here’s hoping you’ve thoroughly enjoyed your first weeks at St Joseph’s and enjoy your education journey with us.

This week, 75 of our Year 3–6 ākonga (students) proudly represented our school at the Kahui Ako Kapa Haka Showcase, performing alongside six other Catholic schools from across the North Shore.

We could not be prouder of the immense passion, strength, and talent our ākonga (students) displayed on stage. Their wonderful performance was a true reflection of their dedication and hard work throughout the year, having committed their Wednesday lunchtimes to practicing, growing, and coming together as an impressive team.

Our thanks go to our Kapa Haka tutors – Te Awhina and Eyana, the kaiako (teachers) that support the Kapa Haka; Rosmini College for graciously hosting us once again; and to Manuel Beazley, Vicar for Māori, for serving as a fantastic MC and keeping the event running so smoothly. A special thanks to Matua Maurice (Carmel College) for bringing the North Shore Catholic Schools together for this showcase.

 A massive thank you to all our students, families, and staff for your incredible generosity towards the St Vincent de Paul ‘Fill the Foodbank’ drive. Your support truly embodies the spirit of our school and extends our care to those in our wider community who are in need.

In response to the devastating floods in Nepal, we are pleased to share that our school is supporting the Caritas emergency appeal. By contributing to this important cause, we are standing in solidarity with the people of Nepal and helping to provide vital aid to those affected. This initiative reflects our school’s commitment to social justice and our dedication to caring for our global neighbours in times of need. We invite our school community to join us in keeping the affected families and aid workers in your thoughts and prayers.

The next open signing session for Preference of Enrolment forms is scheduled for Tuesday, September 8th from 10am-11am. This will be held in the Parish Office at  St Joseph’s Takapuna Church.

If you’re attending, please ensure you bring the relevant documentation with you (ie Preference of Enrolment form, baptism certificates, etc).
