PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE

Tēnā koutou katoa whanau

Wednesday this week, saw our school celebrating ‘Catholic Schools Day’. We began the day with school prayers giving thanks for Catholic Education throughout Aotearoa. Thank you to the parents and whanau who were able to join us for this Liturgy. Following this the children returned to their learning spaces to learn about Catholic Education in NZ. After lunch, the Kapa Haka group performed for the school. They were AWESOME and presented a great performance. This was followed by buddy HG activities. This saw Home Groups joining with their buddy HG and together, doing a Catholic Schools Day activity.

NZ Catholic Education Office Letter of Thanks

Congratulations to the children who led the parish family Mass last Sunday. It was lovely to see our children leading us in prayer and song. If you would like your child to be part of this group please contact St Joseph’s Takapuna Parish for more details. It is a wonderful opportunity for your child to be a part of a child-centred group through which they can grow their faith.

This weekend sees a public holiday on Monday, June 2nd for the King’s birthday. All schools in New Zealand are closed for the day. I look forward to welcoming the children on Tuesday, June 3rd for their new school week.

STUDENT RESPONSES TO CATHOLIC SCHOOLS DAY

Sophia HG 6
We started Catholic Schools Day with a whole School liturgy around us being part of many Catholic Schools in New Zealand. As part of the liturgy we watched a video where the students talked about why they liked St Josephs and what makes us a good school. After lunch and watching the Kapa Haka we did buddy activities. We joined with Home Group 11 to make bunting to celebrate the day. It was great to celebrate being a part of the Catholic Schools of New Zealand.

In the afternoon, I was on stage to perform three songs with the Kapa Haka group Matariki, Toia and Tau Ka Tau Haka. We spent ten weeks preparing for this. After a 1000 times of getting the perfect smile and actions, I thought I was ready. I was a big mix of emotions getting it to click. We were performing for the whole school. This was part of Catholic Schools Day.

Noah HG 10
When I was with my buddy from Home Group 5, we were learning about the different Catholic places in the world. I liked learning about the picture of Mary Poland. I saw a fact that there were robbers who tried to steal and damage this painting. People tried to fix it – Mary has scars which shows that Mary protects and loves us.
