PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE
Kia ora whanau
Yet another AWESOME week at St Joseph’s. Cross country, whanau meetings and welcoming our new children at school prayers.
Thank you for your prayers to St Joseph. The weather has been great all week, and most importantly it was great for Cross Country Day. It was lovely to see so many parents at this event to support the children. Congratulations to all the children for their participation in this event. The results can be found through this link
It was wonderful to be able to welcome our new children and new families to our school community this morning. This is always a special occasion which sees the whole school bless the new children and their families, singing our welcome song. Our Kapa Haka group performed at the beginning, as part of the welcome. They, along with all the children, sang beautifully.
Thank you for coming to your child’s whanau meeting. Please remember that if at any stage you wish to have a catch-up with your child’s teacher, contact them by email and arrange a time. They are only too happy to meet with you. In the final week of this term, we have ‘Sharing the Learning’ which is an opportunity for you child to share their Term 3 learning with you.
There are a couple of events next week for parents. The PTFA meeting and a Community Casual Gathering. The PTFA is a great group to be a member of and is a wonderful way to support the school. The Community Gathering is an opportunity for the community to come together and share ideas to assist with the development of the 2026 – 2028 Strategic Plan. This is being run by the Board.
Have you got your Board nomination in yet? Nominations close at midday on August 6 2025. Please consider standing; or alternatively, nominating someone you think would be a good Board member who understands the role of Governance.

“MOANA”
Our Show Stage is going in next Friday!
Are you able to help next Friday or Saturday to help us to install it?
If so, please email natashal@sj.school.nz
Moana is coming to St Joseph’s this term – the cast and students across the school are busy preparing for what is going to be an amazing show!
Every child in the school will be involved in the show and will be expected to be at the performances.
We will have four performances to ensure that all parents have the ability to see their children perform. We ask that parents buy tickets to only one performance to support this. We know that many children will have other commitments outside of school and we have tried to create a balance between other commitments and our community’s availability to come and watch the performances.
The performance times are as below:
- Monday 18th August – 1pm
- Tuesday 19th August – 1pm
- Wednesday 20th August – 6:30pm (Children to arrive in spaces by 6pm)
- Thursday 21st August – 6:30pm (Children to arrive in spaces by 6pm)
If needed, we will consider adding an additional night on Tuesday 19th August, depending on ticket sales.
Tickets will go on sale in a couple of weeks. We will be in touch with the school sports organisations affected.
Thank you so much to those who have already made kind offers to help, we couldn’t do it without you! We are looking for parents and family members that can help us with the many parts of production preparation, rehearsals and assist on the production nights.
Could you please let us know if you are able to work with the teachers and students to assist with any specific area? We are looking for assistance with:
- stage set up
- costumes
- scene decoration and props
- lighting
- music and sound
- makeup
- singing/acting
More information and details will follow as we set in place the rest of the production plan. We look forward to hearing from you.
