ST JOSEPH’S CATHOLIC
SCHOOL
TAKAPUNA
PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE
Sa aking mga magulang
Tomorrow, Friday, 29th May, our school is CLOSED for children. The teachers will be participating in a Ministry of Education Curriculum day. The school will also be closed on Monday, 2 June for the King’s Birthday public holiday. Enjoy the long weekend with your whanau.
Tuesday, the Year 3 – 6 children went across to the Rosmini auditorium to listen to performances by their choirs and the orchestra. Such amazingly talented young men. It was wonderful to listen to the impressive singing, and watch and listen to the orchestra. It was also wonderful to see our former students participating in these performances. Thank you to Rosmini for the invitation.
This week I spent a few days as a relief teacher for one of our home groups. This was an opportunity for me to get back to the awesome world of teaching. I look forward to working with other home groups when the opportunity presents itself, as it is a great way to get to know the children and experience working with their teams.
We continue to implement our Ministry of Education Attendance Management Plan. The key concept you need to be aware of is that the only valid reason for a child to be away is if they are sick. We appreciate parents completing a child’s absence on the HERO app and putting in an explanation. If there is an explanation other than sick your child is recorded as ‘E’: Explained, unjustified. You are unable to ‘book’ multiple sick days.
If you have yet to get the HERO app, we would encourage you to do so. This is where you will find your child’s progress report which will be rolled out at the end of the term. There will be no hard copies of the report as they are designed for online viewing.
Have a lovely weekend.

YUMMY STICKERS

Do you want to help St Joseph’s get a share of $200,000 worth of Sports equipment?
We are running a competition involving all Home Groups – each HG will have from now until 20 October 2026 to collect as many Yummy stickers as they can. The winning HG will win extra playtime for their class (and an extra break time for their teacher!)
You can help your Home Group by purchasing YUMMY apples (they can be purchased from one of the supermarkets below), either bags with cut-out labels or individual apples with YUMMY stickers, then sticking these onto the Yummy Sticker sheet.
The more we can collect the bigger the share of the $200,000 we will get.
Sticker sheets will be available in the classrooms and extra sheets are available in the office by the sports box.We have until 20th October so get collecting & drop off to the box in the school office when they are ready.
