PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE

Tena koutou katoa whanau

On Wednesday next week we will be welcoming the Catholic Diocese of Auckland education review team. Mrs Smith and Mrs Trainor are our reviewers and they will be joined by Ms Carey, who is the Principal of Pompallier Catholic School, Kaitaia. They will be welcomed at school prayers on Wednesday morning at 9 am. Bishop Steve has his Auckland Diocesan schools reviewed every four years. These reviews are to inform him how his schools are upholding the Catholic Character and the ways in which they will strengthen it over the coming years.

The reviewers will be meeting with the various members of the school community along with visiting our learning spaces and witnessing the Religious Education programme in action.

On the afternoon of the 15 May, you will have received an email, via eTap, from Mrs Smith and Mrs Trainor inviting you to complete the ‘Primary Whanau Survey 2026’. We would appreciate each family completing the survey, as receiving parent feedback is an important part of the Review.

Please note that there will be no school Waiata on Friday as school prayers are on Wednesday.

This morning we welcomed eleven students, and their families, to our school community. This week saw Home Group 16 open with nine new five-year-olds beginning their education here at St Joseph’s. The welcome began with the Kapa Haka group’s first opportunity to be part of our formal welcome. They were AWESOME and their Waiata was so beautiful and strong. They clearly have worked hard on their Kapa Haka with Whaea Te Awhina and Whaea Eyana.

Whaea Te Awhina and Whaea Eyana are also teaching each team Kapa Haka once a week. It is wonderful to see the progress that the children are making and the enjoyment they are having learning Kapa Haka. We look forward to sharing their learnings and talents later in the year.

Welcome to our new students and their families. We are thrilled to have you join our school community.
