PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE

Kia Ora Whanau

We have had an amazing week which ended with the Colour Run. Thank you to all our families for organising profiles and sponsors for their children. Thank you to the PTFA for organising this event. It was highly successful, both financially and for the children, who had a great time running around the field while having colours thrown over them by parents. A very entertaining afternoon and thankfully the rain held off. The PTFA will announce next week the result of the fundraiser.

This Colour Run was part of our Education Outside the Classroom (EOTC) week. Each team did activities to celebrate EOTC week. Next week we will publish photos and articles by the children about their EOTC week. For the Year 6 children, it saw them going to camp at Camp Carey Christian Camp. They had an AWESOME few days participating in a whole range of challenging activities. We are very grateful to the parents who were able to support the children and teachers on the three day camp. I understand they all had a great night’s sleep when they got home on Wednesday.

Next week is National Support Staff week. NZ schools would not be able to provide the educational opportunities that our children are provided without their support staff. We are very grateful for all our Learning Support Assistants, Administration Staff and our Property Manager for the support they give the children and staff with their day-to-day programmes. The Board will be acknowledging the Support Staff with morning tea on Thursday.

In the second week of June, we will be having an External Review that is carried out by the Catholic Diocesan of Auckland Education Services every four years. This review happens over three days. The reviewers carry out Home Group observations, review all the school’s policies and procedures, and meet various groups of people to learn how the school reflects our Integration Agreement and the charism of the school. The report is for the Bishop of Auckland as we are a Diocesan school which he owns.

Happy Mother’s Day to all the Mothers in our school community. May your children spoil you on your special day.

MERCY WEEKEND WEAR DAY

On Friday 15 May (next Friday) we will be having our annual Mercy Values Weekend Wear Day. This day sees the children reflecting on the schools ‘Mercy Values’ and the ‘School Motto’ along with ‘Muck Up, Own Up, Fix Up, Move On, and ‘Above the Line, Below the Line’. These reflect our school charism in action as well as being the basis for our behaviour management programme. We look forward to seeing the children coming along in their weekend wear on this day.

MISSION “COZY COMFORT” FOR DE PAUL HOUSE!

Let’s team up to bring some warmth to families supported by De Paul House as the cooler months arrive! They have let us know that their supplies of bedding are running very low, and they could really use our help.

If you happen to have any spare items lying around that are new or good quality second-hand, we would be incredibly grateful for your support! They are specifically asking for:

  • Single full-size bedding
  • Duvet inners
  • Blankets (mink and polar fleece)
  • Queen blankets / duvet covers / inners

Please drop off any donations at the school office. Thank you so much for considering this request—every bit helps! (P.S. You can also check last week’s newsletter for a list of other items De Paul House needs.)
