PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE
Kia ora whanau
Some of the students, staff and I watched the NZ vs Iran game in the hall on Tuesday afternoon. Seven minutes in, the children erupted and the decibels broke the sound meter. The yelling, screaming and cheering was heard in our library. It was a great first game for NZ. We are looking forward to NZ vs Egypt on Monday afternoon. Parents are welcome to join us to watch the game.
Thank you for taking the time to come to ‘Sharing the Learning’. It was wonderful for your children to be able to share with you their learning. The next couple of weeks see part two and three of the reporting process. At the end of next week you will be able to view your child’s progress report on the HERO app. You will receive an email at the same time explaining the new reporting system introduced by the Government this year. The following week we have Whanau Hui. You are able to book a time on the HERO App. Bookings are open now.
The final week of the term sees three key events for our school; Matariki Breakfast, Book Fair Week and the Matariki Disco. Matariki Breakfast is on Monday 29 June beginning at 7:30am. This will be followed by the opening of Book Fair Week with the Book Character Parade in the hall beginning at 9:15 am. This is a great occasion with the children displaying their book character outfits. On Thursday 2 July we have our Matariki Disco. Year 0 – 2, 5:30 – 6:30 and Year 3 – 6, 6:30 – 7:30. Children can only attend if they are accompanied by one of their parents for the full hour. Parents can not drop their children off and leave them unsupervised.
Planning is beginning for Term 3. During the term we will be preparing for our bi-annual cultural festival which will be held at the beginning of Term 4. Please check out the notice below as to how you can support the children and teachers in preparing for this event.
Thank you to parents for getting their children to school on time. Thank you also for ensuring your child signs in if they arrive after the bell rings. As we are aware the Government is focused on raising student attendance. A trend we have noted is children and their siblings being taken out for the day for a doctors or dentist appointment. Please consider the timing of the appointments and the need for siblings being able to come to school.
Have a great weekend. Go Hurricanes!

CULTURAL FESTIVAL

We would love your help with our Cultural Afternoons next term!
During Term 3, we will be hosting Cultural Afternoons starting 27th of July. We are looking for whānau that can support our teachers to lead a group of students (around 30) learning about the different cultures and cultural backgrounds in our community.
Do you have time on a Monday afternoon from 1:30 – 2:40 pm? This could be a group of people that could take turns or you could give some time outside these hours to meet with a teacher to support their understanding.
We are learning:
* basic greetings and everyday words in another language
* names for everyday items
* to make connections between other languages and English
* ways that we are the same and different to people in other countries
This learning will conclude with a Cultural Festival Sharing on Thursday 22nd October @ 11:15am.
Or any other ideas/areas of expertise that you have. If so, please fill out the form attached by Friday 3rd July and we will be in touch to co-ordinate.
Thank you for your continued support!
SKIDS HOLIDAY PROGRAMME

THREEFOLD

A new fundraising opportunity for our school community
Good things happen when communities look out for each other – and we hope this opportunity will be a genuine win for our families and our school!
Threefold, a local financial advisory firm based at Smales Farm that was recently named ‘Outstanding Advice Business’ of the Year at the Kiwi Adviser Network Awards, has offered our school the opportunity to be part of a referral partnership programme.
By being part of the programme, Threefold will make a fixed annual contribution to our PTFA, along with also paying referral fees if a member of our community nominates our school and goes on to become a Threefold client.
Here is how it works:
- Book a complimentary review with a Threefold specialist adviser, covering mortgages, KiwiSaver, personal insurance, or home, contents and vehicle insurance – or a combination of these.
- You’ll receive personalised recommendations and advice at no cost to you and with no obligation to do anything further if the timing isn’t right.
- If you nominate our school when you book and later decide to become a Threefold client, our PTFA will earn a referral payment of between $150 and $500* that will go directly towards our fundraising efforts.
As an added bonus, anyone who completes a review with Threefold will also go into a twice-yearly draw to win $5,000 cash to spend, save, or invest as they please!
* To find out more about the programme and to book your free review, visit www.threefold.co.nz/schools
Please note that any decision to use Threefold’s services should be your own choice rather than based on a recommendation from the school. Threefold provides and is responsible for all financial advice.
