PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE

Several of teachers and I were fortunate to be able to support a number of our children last weekend at their special celebrations.

At all of the Masses over the weekend, it was lovely to see the children in their beautiful outfits, receiving the Sacrament of Holy Communion for the first time. Today, as part of school prayers, we acknowledged these children. They were presented with a lei from Mrs Boyle and Miss Woodhead (DRS). Mrs Boyle’s sons were students in our school and she has been a catechist for the Parish Sacramental Programme for a number of years. The leis were kindly made by former students of ours from Camel College and funded by our PTFA. Congratulations to our children on this special occasion in their faith journey.

On Saturday afternoon, we had two groups of children performing at the Jump Jam competition that was held at Westlake Girls. They were absolutely amazing. The passion and energy that they put into their polished performances saw one team get third equal; and the other team got first place. Congratulations to the children and their teachers for their AWESOME performances.

Next week sees our Term 3 Sharing the Learning. This is part of our annual reporting process. The learning space will be open for parents and their children between 8:15 am and 8:45 am Monday 14 September to Wednesday 16 September. This is an opportunity for children to share the learning they have achieved this term with their parents. We look forward to seeing all parents over these three days.

Finally, we have our 2026 Market Day. This is a major learning experience for our Year 5 / 6 children. They will have their wares on sale on the afternoon of Thursday, 17 September. They have put a lot of time, energy and learning into planning, marketing and delivering their products. Their fliers are on the office and HG 19 windows for you to view. Please remember that it is a CASH ONLY (preferably coins) event. The whole school goes to the market so you are welcome to send your child with coins on the day so they can participate. The money raised is donated to organisations that the Kakariki team have selected.

2026 MARKET DAY

THANK YOU MR LEE

Dear Mr Lee,

Thank you for teaching us valuable knowledge about owning a business, such as staying above the line, which is doing our job properly without blaming, excuses and denial. Thank you for telling us the two kinds of businesses, public and private, and that we are making private businesses. We now understand how valuable time is when creating or running a business. And that, just like humans need oxygen, “profit is oxygen for businesses”. The seven questions you asked us really made us think about the costs, the profit we’ll make, how much time we’ve used, the pricing of our product or game and how to get lots of profit. We know different ways to advertise, like posters, flyers and commercials. We realise what you mean by needs and wants. Like we need food but we want McDonalds. We need shoes but we want New Balance. We need clothes but we want White Fox.

In conclusion, we learnt that we must be responsible for our role in our company, and take care in our pricing and advertising.

RIPPA RUGBY

On Thursday, 27th of August, a group of Year 5 and 6 students caught a bus to Takapuna Rugby Club. When we arrived, everyone was buzzing with excitement. The field felt alive with the loud music playing. Kids were running and screaming, laughing and playing.

We walked over to the gazebos which a dad had thoughtfully set up for us. We all dropped our bags on the tarp and warmed up with Mr Heath who had kindly offered to coach us throughout the tournament.

Our first game had finally arrived. We were on the bottom field, ready to begin. We lost by one point. After a short break, we started our 2nd game. It finished in a tie.

In the next two games we scored try after try and we won those last two games!

On behalf of our team, we would like to thank all the teachers and parents who coached, organised and supported us. This tournament would not have happened without your kind support.
