PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE

Dear Parents and whanau

  • Welcome
  • School Prayers
  • Covid-19
  • School Mass
  • Litterless Lunch
  • Sports
  • School Website Icon
  • PTA
  • National Elections

The first two Fridays of the term saw us welcoming our Term 3 and Term 2 new students and new families. Although we had welcomed the Term 2 new students and their families through the school newsletter, it was nice to be able to welcome them in person, as a school, at our School Prayers.

The School Prayers on Friday 24 July was the first time the school had been together since March 17. It was wonderful to see a large number of parents and whanau in attendance. Friday 31 July we welcomed the Term 3 students and new families. Again we had a lovely large turn out by parents.

This term we will be having School Prayers every Friday, beginning at 8.50 am. All parents and whanau are welcome to join us in the school hall. I booked the coffee cart again for this coming Friday, after School Prayers.

The new term has see the school day for the students happening as it did prior to the March lockdown. We are certainly very fortunate as a country to be able to get back to normal so quickly. Many of our staff and many of our school families have family around the world who continue to have their life greatly impacted by Covid-19. Please keep the people in our community, and around the world, impacted by Covid-19 in your prayers.

Our first school Mass this term will be Friday 14 August beginning 9.15 am. All parents and whanau are welcome to join us for the special Mass. The school diary on the website has all the important dates for the term for students and for parents. Please regularly check into the school website to see the up-coming events.

Students with the support of their parents, are preparing for the Sacrament of Confirmation. Please keep these students in your prayers as they learn about this very special sacrament which they will be blessed with at the end of this month.

The Year 6 Eco Leaders have started a Litterless Lunch initiative. Starting this week, all students are encouraged to bring a rubbish free lunch on Wednesdays. A Year 5/6 Eco Team member will visit the homegroups during Read and Feed to check lunchboxes and award House Points to those with a litterless lunch. Please consider sending your child’s lunch in containers or reuseable food bags

It is great to have all sports up and running again. The netball, basketball and hockey teams are back doing their weekly practices at school, and the flippa ball team at the pools.

Congratulations to the Friday cricketers who together saw our school win the Kookabura Cricket Competition. All our students (5 yrs – 10 yrs) in the Takapuna Friday night cricket had their runs tallied for the season and they had the most runs for all schools in the competition.

Have you got the school website icon on your cell phone? Having it on your cell phone will mean you have quick access to the school calendar, online student absence form and a range of information about our school. Click on this link to learn how to have the website icon on your phone.

The PTA will be having their first meeting Tuesday 11 August. All parents are welcome to come along to the meeting which begins at 7.15 pm and is held in the staffroom.

As you will be aware this year we have our National Elections. They are being held on Saturday 19 September. For the first time there will be a polling booth here at St Joseph’s School in our school hall.

Take care. Stay safe.
